Why do I need a septic inspection?

Home buyers can request a septic inspection prior to purchase in order to ensure the system is sound and operational.

Home sellers can offer a septic inspection as an added incentive to buyers.  An inspection offers great peace-of-mind as the septic system is a very expensive component of a home.

Regular System Inspections

Regular inspections can uncover potential problems with your septic system.  Heading off problems early on can save you money and prevent a major mess in your house.

What does a system inspection include?

An inspection is the first step in maintaining a healthy septic system and can uncover hidden problems.  We will start by tanking a look inside your tank to make sure it is at the proper operating level.  A liquid level above the invert of your tank outlet pipe can mean anything from water infiltration to drain field failure.  A liquid level below the outlet pipe can be a sign of a leaking septic tank. A liquid core sample of the contents of the tank will be collected in order to determine the solids concentration as well as the amount of scum on the top of the tank.  This information can tell us if your tank has been pumped recently and also helps determine how long to wait between cleanings.  Next we will conduct a hydraulic test which simulates peak flow on the system.  With this test we're able to determine if the drain field is working properly.  The tank will also be fully cleaned in order to allow for visual and camera inspection of the tank and its components. A visual  inspection of the area surrounding the drain field will also be conducted.  A full written report will be provided to the customer.

The addition of an effluent filter adds another layer of protection for your drain field.
